GEH attends Aachen Water Conference

Vortrag bei Aachener Tagung Wassertechnologie Herr Dr. Bahr

The 13th Aachen Conference on Water Technology took place at the Eurogress Aachen towards the end of October 2019. Organised every two years by RWTH Aachen University (ISA and ATV), the event is the largest German-speaking, process-related symposium in the water industry and attracts over 400 participants from ten nations.

During the two-day conference, water experts from universities and the business community presented their latest technological developments and experiences in the operation of full-scale water-treatment and waste-treatment plants. The more than 50 lectures that were held detailed the latest innovations in membrane, adsorption and oxidation processes as well as combinations thereof and were followed by extensive discussions. These innovations represent the key approaches to solving the current challenges faced by water treatment and wastewater purification companies: resource recovery, industrial and municipal circular economies, as well as the elimination of trace elements and microplastics.

As part of his lecture, our Head of Research, Dr. Bahr, informed the conference participants of how the company has successfully deployed Granular Ferric Hydroxide (GEH) to remove vanadium from drinking water. Aided by the practical experience it has gained through working with three pilot plants, the company has been able to compile the core parameters that impact adsorption capacity, making it possible to predict the residence times that can be achieved for GEH adsorption filters used in the elimination of vanadium. The research work was carried out in conjunction with the AWA Institute.

The exhibition held as a side event to the conference was exceptionally well attended and provided an important framework for the lecture programme. A stand jointly organised by GEH Wasserchemie and AWA Institute formed the backdrop for numerous conversations with the attending experts during which the diverse intended uses of Granular Ferric Hydroxide (GEH) in the treatment of water and wastewater were discussed.

A printed conference publication including brief essays on the lectures is available for purchase from Aachener Verfahrenstechnik, RWTH Aachen University (ISBN: 978-3-95886-305-7).
